I really like to explore different sounds and see what kind of possibilities I can get out of the drum set. I’m more of a percussive player. I like to add textures and different sounds. I really love exploring that area of drumming as opposed to only a simple set up with a few options for sounds. For me it helps push it to a different level.
Ronald Darden is what I’d consider a pocket drummer. He learned to play in the church and you can tell that by listening to his solid funky groove. He’s a drummer forging out a musical career by hard work and perseverance

Using a Cajon with a mini hi hat and/or woodblock struck with a kick drum pedal is a great solution to lighten your load. KickStrap is the essential tool holding these slave pedals from sliding forward. Check out this video in which I use two slave pedals attached to my Cajon with KickStrap. It’s the perfect solution!
From my experience being a semi-pro drummer, playing an assortment of odd gigs in cramped spaces, I’m always trying to lighten my load.
